Don’t Be a Dick is a collection of essays, carefully and considerately put together to help you navigate life without being a massive tool.
If, like me, you have been a bit of a dick in the past, that’s OK. This book isn’t about shame or punishment, it’s about forgiveness and self love. It’s ok if you were a dick, but it ends now.
Don’t Be a Dick will help you treat others better and, perhaps most importantly, it will also help you be less of a dick to yourself.
The world is overwhelming and fast paced and we’re forever being overloaded with information, adverts and things that beep for no discernable good reason. Given everything that is thrust at us daily, I don’t think it is a surprise that we’re all dicks to one another.
This design is for illustrative purposes only and is subject to change
This book is about slowing down, evaluating how we treat one another and putting more conscious thought into how we navigate life. We’re on billions of simultaneous journeys that, despite starting and ending relatively similarly, take the most unpredictable twists and tangles - I think we’d all have a much easier ride if we stopped self-sabotaging in the name of catching up with others.
I’ve split the book into easily digestible and clearly marked chapters like “Don’t Make Boring Powerpoint Presentations” and “Don’t Take on Too Much” and “Don’t be a Racist”, so you can read the book from cover-to-cover (because you’re not a monster), OR you can just go straight to the bit you need help with (“Don’t Send Unsolicited Dick Pics” is Chapter 23) and I can cure you JUST LIKE THAT.
Buy this book. It’s my very first one and I named it so that you can give hilarious but passive aggressive gifts to people you think need to read it. Or just buy it for yourself.
No offence.

Anneli Roberts
Anneli Roberts is a podcast host and writer, who spends much more time on Twitter than she would like to admit. She is passionate about self care, mental health and equality and works hard to convince people that they are not alone and also that they are worthy of self love. She pops up in some unexpected (for her at least) places, like at the Mind Charity awards, on the BBC News website, in Huffington Post and sometimes even on TV and Radio. She started opening up about anxiety, PTSD, her mum’s death and domestic abuse in early 2017 and now she hosts new podcast series, Human Bean, and is the assistant editor for the
Breakdown. Also Stephen Fry once called her an old friend and she will not stop going on about it. She is repeatedly amazed by the fact that anyone is even remotely interested in what she has to say (especially because she spent so long in the company of her labrador, who is mostly and correctly far more interested in cheese). And yet people do seem to be interested, so she wrote a book. This is that book.

As I mentioned last time, I'm editing and re-writing some parts of the…

21st October 2020 Don't Be a Dick in 2020Hello friends,
I first wrote the book in 2019, which was very bad timing from my part because, thanks to the pandemic, 2020 offered up a LOT of new ways of being a dick that I hadn’t ever previously thought of. Thankfully, my agent and the other folk at Unbound are an understanding bunch and have OK’d the idea of me rewriting a lot of the book to allow for the new dickery we’ve all become acquainted…
