A unique glimpse into previously unseen sketch books

For over 25 years, acclaimed artist and designer, Pete Fowler, has collected his thoughts, sketches, doodles, drafts and ideas in a series of sketchbooks. These have never been seen outside of a small circle of friends.

Decades of Lead will collect the very best of these sketchbooks into one beautiful hardback volume. Together with commentary from Pete, these will form a unique insight into the creative mind of one of Britain's most exciting artists.

From hairy synth players to mythical galleons, battered sneakers to bizarre monsters…

Darren Millburn
Darren Millburn asked:

Hi Pete, I'd love to come for a curry with you but how would this work, will it be held on a set date? Need to to think about travel to/from London.

Pete Fowler
Pete Fowler replied:

Hi Darren, thanks for your message. We're going have to plan this out as the pledges come in. Might have to break this up into several curries! We'll let you know as the pledges come in.

Many thanks and all the best,
Pete

Barry Sowle
Barry Sowle asked:

Hi is the Curry and Studio Tour during the day or evening? & is the drawing the same as offered in Personalised Drawing £100.00 ? Thanks!

Unbound
Unbound replied:

Hello,

We are probably going to have to organise 2 or 3 curry/studio days but the plan at the moment is that they will be in the evening. Once the book is funded we will liaise with the subscribers who have pledged for that level and see what dates and times work for everyone.

The drawings that Pete will do on those days will be unique to those events and are different to the Personlised Drawing pledge.

Hope that helps.

Nick Cullen
Nick Cullen asked:

Hello,

Wishing you success with this project, Pete! Is there a deadline for this? Do we still get our 'rewards' if it doesn't make it to 100%? Would be bummed if I missed my chance to get 'Fowlerized' : )
Thanks!
Nick

Pete Fowler
Pete Fowler replied:

It's kind of open ended. Going a little slowly at the moment but the publishers really want this to happen so watch this space and many thanks for your support Nick!

All the best,

Pete

Chris Holub
Chris Holub asked:

Shipping is very expensive!

Unbound
Unbound replied:

Hi Chris,

Thanks for getting in touch and for your useful feedback. We courier the books to ensure safe and traceable delivery (as we only print limited numbers of the special editions and there isn't much room for these to go missing) and we do not make a profit on the delivery costs. We are currently looking in to developing the site so that supporters can choose their own shipping option, (courier or airmail) but this function is still in the planning at the moment. I hope this helps to explain our prices a little.

Best wishes,

Unbound Support

Chris Holub
Chris Holub asked:

Hi! I presume that the wood carvings are the figures shown in the video. Any chance of putting in a wood carving request? Thanks!

Unbound
Unbound replied:

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Pete has done lots of wood carvings but what sort of request did you have?

Casey Jacks
Casey Jacks asked:

Assuming once the goal is met, we will receive an email with instructions on how to get our photos for Fowlerization to you?

Unbound
Unbound replied:

Yes, we'll be in touch once the book is funded.

Thanks!

Phil

Ben Wiffen
Ben Wiffen asked:

Hi,
This has been funded but I've yet to be asked for a photograph. Just making sure that is still happening at some point?
Thanks

Unbound
Unbound replied:

Absolutely. We'll be catching up with Pete this month to progress production and look at the various rewards, although the project will remain open for a while yet.

Thanks.

James Kay
James Kay asked:

It's been a bit quiet for a while on this. I've also not yet been approached about the photograph for the personalised drawing. Is this still happening? Is there an estimate for this? Thanks.

Unbound
Unbound replied:

Hi,

I spent yesterday with Pete going through all the sketchbooks and selecting a long-list of images for inclusion, so things are starting to motor on this.

Dates for the personalised items are still tbc but we hope to update you soon.

Thanks,

Scott

Jim Parker
Jim Parker asked:

Hi,

Haven't had an update on this for a while (I know the question above is asking the same thing but there's no date on it so I don't know when it was asked!). Is there an ETA on the book yet? Can't wait!

Unbound
Unbound replied:

Hi Steve,

The images have are now in being scanned and the design of the insides will shortly be underway.

The cover is almost there too. We'll have a better idea of an ETA in the coming month.

Thanks for your patience.

Steve Wood
Steve Wood asked:

Any news? Seems like it's been ages since we pledged?
Cheers
Steve

Unbound
Unbound replied:

Hi Steve,

It can take a while for a book like this to come together. The images have all been selected and are now in the process of being scanned and laid out for design.

Pete has created a cover design too and we should have more stuff to share soon.

Thanks for your patience.

dan finch asked:

Hi, any updates? It's been an age since I signed up.

Thanks

Unbound
Unbound replied:

Hello,

The book is well into production but it is a complex process to transfer the sketches into files we can print from. One issue we have is the bleed-through from other pages, so there is a bit of cleaning up being done. As soon as we know more about possible print dates we will let everyone know.

Paul Foreman
Paul Foreman asked:

Hi Scott - Could you post an update with a date included? None of the Q&A posts have dates, so it's impossible to know the timeframe.

Unbound
Unbound replied:

Apologies, Paul.

I have just posted an update for supporters to let them know how things are going. Basically, we are looking at late 2018 for finished copies but from this point on the production updates should be more regular.

Best,
Scott
