We did it!
First of all, apologies for how long it’s taken for me to pen an update - you see, I wasn’t expecting us to beat the April 30th deadline by TWO WHOLE DAYS. Two days, you bunch of chancers!
Perhaps this is extraneous and obvious by now, but it’s right that I extend a huge, voluminous thank you to everyone - from tentative digital patrons all the way up to you extravagant sack-swinging top-end pledgers. Every tweet, every share, every casual mention in passing at Sainsbury’s, every chance to crash your book club/blog/local paper/writing group/piss-up has been keenly and warmly received. You’ve been champions.
You’ve not only supported a first-time novelist trying something new, you’ve created a weird little community: a miraculous mix of people I know, people I admire and people I’ve literally never heard of. Hello, welcome, sorry, thank you.
You’ll very reasonably be wondering when you can expect to receive your copy of BDIRR and, if applicable, its attendant merch. Well, that’s a tricky question to answer. I’m currently squirrelled away with the manuscript in a state of infinite tinkering, but once that’s completed it’ll go off to be properly edited. And then edited again. And probably again. Then, when all the words have been wrangled to the floor and a cover design has been finalised, it’ll be yours. I’m going to tentatively suggest a timeframe of ‘some months’, but I’ll keep you updated as we go.
Oh, and I should mention that, while we’ve reached 100% funding, it is still very possible to buy the book (hello to those of you that have done so far). So the pressure’s off and the book’s definitely happening, but anyone else who you think might be interested in a copy can still join the party.
Once again to sign off, THANK YOU: I think you’ve done something extremely good. Hope you think so too.
