Farewell January, hello Charity
Tuesday, 23 January 2018
Hello Supporters & another warm welcome to our newest members,
As we come to the end of January I can honestly say it’s the best one I’ve had in a long time. Earlier in the month I presented Barking at Laydeez Do comics. This was the first time I’ve spoken about the personal nature of my book in public and I won’t lie, I was extremely nervous. Particularly as it was in January ’01 that I had my mental health crisis and as such it’s always a vulnerable time of year for myself and many others. However I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive and encouraging audience, as it always is at Laydeez. I had a little moment when speaking about my Dad and having his picture projected was overwhelming but I guess that’s what this is all about. Being honest about our weaknesses, not hiding our scars and being open about our daily struggles.
Breaking the stigma and improving our understanding of mental health is something I’m very passionate about so I will be donating 10% of my revenue (the author) from every Hardbook copy to a mental health charity. There are many worthy and brilliant charities out there but I have chosen to donate to MQ: Transforming Mental Health (Charity No. 1139916 & Scotland SCO46075). My reasons for this are two-fold. One that MQ put scientific research as a priority and two that they take seriously the impact of mental health problems on our younger generations with their Dare to Swear campaign.
Here’s a snippet from their website: “Our vision is simple: to create a world where mental illness is understood, effectively treated, and ultimately prevented. With the help of our supporters and a global network of leading scientists we can make this a reality. Together we are championing and funding research into mental health that will change millions of lives.”

I hope that January has been an enjoyable one for you too. If it hasn’t, I’ll have a little present for you very soon as I will be sending out a digital version of the 1st chapter of Barking. Until then I just like to say another huge thanks for your support. I genuinely wouldn’t be able to make this book without you. If you can share the link to pledge on social media I would be very grateful and if you’ve not done so already please find me on:
