Hello, my wonderful Arbitrary and Unnecessary pledgers! I’m not calling you Arbitrary and Unnecessary, by the way. If my book were named after you, it would be called Essential and Beloved [and just an all-out bloody legend].
The crowdfunding process for my first book has been (and still is) a fun, terrifying, uplifting and humbling process. I realised recently that I have often been the kind of person to pledge for other people’s projects as late as possible. There have even been instances of me thinking ‘I’ll definitely pledge for that’, only to accidentally miss the deadline. Some of those people were putting themselves through intense physical endurance for charity, not just publishing a book of silly stories (two of which feature Eamonn Holmes). Now that the fundraising shoe is on my foot and I have experienced some of the joy and discomfort it can bring (there’s me pretending I’ve been through physical endurance - well, maybe my writing hand has - LOL!!!!!!!), I have a newfound appreciation and admiration for anyone trying to raise money for to make something happen.
If you are reading this then you are a better person than me. You have not waited until the last minute to pledge. For some reason, you have believed in me (sob) enough to pledge with days, weeks, maybe even MONTHS to spare. Every one of your pledges has made my day. But there are people out there who are NOT as good as you. People more like ME. And I wondered if, maybe, because you are a good person, you might fancy helping me out a tiiiiny bit more.
The campaign will end in just over 2 weeks, on 27 April. If we hit 100%, the book will be published! You will receive it! Others can buy it! You can read it in bed! I can read from it at gigs! Then sell it afterwards! I really want to see this book become a reality. It has been 5 years in the making and I’m very proud of it. It makes me laugh.
There are two things you can do to help (even more than you already have [you all-out bloody legend]). It would be so great if you could spread the word about the book. The obvious example is social media. If you share the link then I promise to like it. Both genuinely AND via a click. Or you could text your pals. Or mention it to someone at dinner. You never know, YOU could be saving someone from becoming a deadline-misser like I once was.
The other thing you can do is, if you fancy it, upgrade your pledge. The cheek of it!! Just if you’re feeling flush, you know. You can log in, and add upgrade to a higher level with a bigger reward. The sheer audacity of it!!! Or you can even just add a ‘donation’ to your pledge if you just want to chuck a bit more money at it. The sheer gall of it!!!!!!
Right, I’m off back on the campaign trail. Don’t forget to tune in for all-day live TV coverage as we countdown to midnight on 27th April. It’s going to be a nail-biter!
Thanks again (you all-out bloody legend)
