Words as Music

Tuesday, 9 January 2018

Happy new year!

The relationship between music and literature is something I've wanted to explore since my first attempts to build worlds out of words. I've always been able to sense its influence on my writing and recognised it retrospectively - but precisely how and why has always eluded me. Writers are always pushing against the limits of language - compressing, stretching, layering meaning - always confronted by its limitations as well as its possibilities. If so much of our experience is beyond language, what can writers draw from music to communicate the visceral and unconscious?

These are just some of the ideas I'll be discussing with three fellow Unboundersmiths at MAP Studios on 10th Feb, 7-9pm.

This is certain to be a lively evening so bring along any questions of your own, a touch of irreverence and an open heart. We'd love to see you there!
