Closing the deal
There are some important announcements as we near publication date.
First of all, the supporters list for A Love of Two Halves closes next week, on 2 September 2019. You cannot pledge for the book after this date. If you know someone who would like to pledge, please urge them to do so promptly! We’ve received a trickle of new pledges from people since passing the 100% mark earlier this year. As at 28 August, we had reached 102% with 70 individuals pledging. Once again, many thanks for your support for this exciting project.
Secondly, the publisher’s page has been updated to include the new title. The project was launched with the working title The Rooms We Never Enter. While this is original and vivid, it doesn’t really sound like a romcom. The title A Love of Two Halves has a nice dual purpose, alluding both to the different social worlds of the two main characters, and the sporting interest of the male lead, by referencing a football idiom.
As a supporter, you will have received an email on 27 August asking you to check your name on the list. Please do so. Your name will appear on the roll call of supporters in the book.
And next, here’s another excerpt, this time from the point of view of the male lead George:
‘Like most educated men, I have an uneasy relationship with my satnav. It pits two of my most cherished values – maximising use of technology and pride in personal autonomy – at war with one another .... I alternate between relying on my own route-planning and turning her voice back on: month on, month off. I did miss her, sometimes. She was, after all, the only female voice in my private world, unless you count my sister. On this occasion, running late for a Saturday 3 p.m. kick-off, she messed up – big style.’
There will be three launch events for A Love of Two Halves: Wednesday 13 November, in Leeds; Saturday 16 November central London; Saturday 23 November at the Margate Book Festival. All details are on my Events page, which is updated as details are confirmed. http://pjwhiteley.com/events/
