A Gothic Cookbook

By Ella Buchan and Alessandra Pino, with illustrations by Lee Henry

A feast for the senses: an illustrated cookbook inspired by classic and contemporary Gothic texts.

Tuesday, 25 October 2022

“Don't do it, Eleanor told the little girl; insist on your cup of stars..."

It's that time of year again; the days are crisper, the nights are chillier, and doorsteps are dotted with carved, candlelit pumpkins.

Halloween is creeping up with spindly, skeletal limbs, and we're using it as an excuse to do some final testing of our most cockle-warming recipes. Like our Cup of Stars, a cocktail inspired by The Haunting of Hill House – and Eleanor's over-active imagination as she watches a little girl insist on only drinking from her favourite mug.

This recipe is based on an 18th-century one for clarified milk punch, which is a lot easier (and more appetising) than it sounds. Its satisfyingly silky texture and soft spices make it perfect as the nights draw in.

Happy sipping – and, of course, happy Halloween!

PS We're busy getting the cookbook polished and perfected for publication, so it looks great on your shelves – and so the recipes work perfectly for your plates. These things take time, and we truly appreciate your support and patience. It will be worth it, we promise!

Hi, any chance of a rough idea of publication timescales please?

I'd like to see a rough timeline too. This takes awhile I know, but still.

Hi, I ordered this cookbook almost a year ago. Waiting for a long time. When can I expect it to be shipped?

Unbound Support here!

Thanks so much for supporting A Gothic Cookbook, we're delighted to have you on board. Unbound is a crowdfunding platform so the books are only produced when they reach 100% of the target set. After this point, it normally takes around 12 months from the manuscript hand-in date to go through all of the editorial and production processes. You can read all about what goes on behind the scenes of producing a book in our help centre.

I’m disappointed to be honest, I’ve had a few books from unbound and they’ve been more timely than this. Especially since the progress report says it’s still being written? I would have expected that stage to be well on the way during the funding stage. It’s put me off supporting in future, sadly

Hi Nicola,

Thanks for your comment - cookbooks take longer to write because authors have to recipe test every single recipe in the cookbook prior to submitting their manuscript, and make tweaks so they’re taste perfect for readers. Behind the scenes, there’s a lot going on to make this brilliant cookbook happen and we’re very excited to be publishing it.

Best wishes,

Unbound Support
