"Don't be silly, honey..." A mousse to mark the 55th anniversary of Rosemary's Baby

This weekend marks 55 years since Rosemary's Baby was published. Ira Levin's terrifying tale depicted witchcraft and devilry creeping into the domestic realm in the most insidious manner, and food is one of the key ways it manifests itself.

We have a chapter dedicated to the role of food and drink in the novel, with recipes including a Chilean chupe – a fish stew baked with a cheesy breadcrumb topping – and a recreation of the supper Rosemary makes for Guy, including Chicken Marengo (a French dish of chicken sautéed with garlic and tomato) and a mocha layer cake with coffee-infused sponge and cream.

We will also, of course, be paying homage to the classic "chalky undertaste" scene with our own chocolate mousse recipe, with silky dark and white layers topped with a walnut.

Here's the recipe so you can try it at home, perhaps to celebrate the anniversary on March 12 – or just any time you fancy a devilishly good dessert...

Feel free to share, along with our Unbound page, with anyone else who might happen to like lovely puddings.

We also have a special discount on pledges to mark the occasion: supporters can use the code COOKBOOK15 for 15% off pledges from 12th March to 1st April.
