Dog Tour Bucket List
Our dogs are now 14 and 17. Tomorrow we will set off on a dog tour bucket list. The 14-year-old, Puppy, is a frothy sort of Husky mix. (We never got round to changing her name after we found her, abandoned, in her youthful state - I actually met a dog so-named for exactly the same reason on Crete.) Rufus, whose black face is now peppered with grey is 17, and is one of these smaller barrel-chested creatures designed for longevity... "She'll outlive the lot of us", we used to jest. Hopefully, this won't come true.
Puppy and Rufus have never been out of central Spain. When we've been away, we've had people round here take care of them. Now they are in their dotage, I was feeling shabby about their never having visited a beach, in a similar way that I feel I've shortchanged my children for never taking them to a Disney park, not even the Paris one where the people being the various characters are famously disgruntled with their lot. We are bringing along "Mr. Carrot" the only squeaky toy Puppy has ever shown interest in, an interest that only began last year... "second childishness"? Perhaps. It's a bit mean of me, I know, but I'm looking forward to their faces when they try to drink sea water.
So, tomorrow we head up to the beach in the north of Spain, where we'll do all the usual things with them, sandcastles, donkey rides. Thereafter we will go into France where they will sample croissants and fine dining. Photos to follow...
