Your First Behind the Scenes Look

So, as part of the crowdfunding process for this book, one of the things I want to do is share with supporters of the book behind the scenes looks at how the book creation process happens.

Today, I want to give you all a look at one scrapped piece of art from when we were creating the promotional art shown on the Unbound page. Below is the original artwork for Luigi, scrapped in favour of the more action oriented Smash Bros inspired butt to Donkey Kong's head image we used in the final pitch.

The butt itself looked fantastic, so why did we scrap it? Well, mainly because Mario is the cover star of the book, the character mentioned in the title, and i wanted to make sure we got some art done of him too. With this pose, any art we did of Mario would likely have been very similar at its core, and I wanted the two brothers who will likely kick off the book to have some variation to them.

My write up about Luigi is very much focused on the dexterity of his butt, something not really emphasised in the original sketch, so we redid luigi in an action pose, so that we can get away with Mario having a more traditional pose in this style.

So, there you go, a brief look into the art creation process behind the first few finished pieces you've seen in promotional material, and a glimpse into how or why I design butts the way I do.
