The Rubber Man

The Rubber Man

A couple of very glamorous friends have now endorsed the project. Monty Python's Carol Cleveland and Vera Day who, as well as starring opposite everyone from Laurence Olivier to Sid James, appeared on screen with Forgotten Heroes Cardew Robinson and Nat Jackley. Jackley has briefly returned to the media spotlight this week thanks to his appearance in the Beatles' 'Magical Mystery Tour'. An 'Arena' documentary and a BBC2 screening of the film last weekend featured a brief clip of his eccentric dancing. Jackley's career stretched back to the late 1920s. Indeed, he was born with funny bones, for both his father and parental grandfather were in show-business. Nat's elastic limbs earned him the title of 'The Indian Rubber Man' and he remained a pantomime and variety favourite well into his dotage. He certainly deserves to be much more than just a footnote on the postcard from the psychedelic summer of love. Here's Nat taking direction from John Lennon during the making of 'Magical Mystery Tour'.
