I've been happily working my way through the excellent collections of 'The Arthur Haynes Show' from Network DVD. Arthur is fast talking his way out of this book! A good thing of course, for all of the comics featured deserve to be remembered rather than forgotten. However, the revelation of the shows is Tony Fayne. Nicholas Parsons remains the most familiar of Arthur Haynes's many stooges but Tony filled the shoes wonderfully well. As pompous next-door neighbours, petulant policemen and bemused vicars, he perfected the slow-burn. Here's Tony doing what he does best – keeping a straight face – in a trailer for 'The Arthur Haynes Show'. He later supported Norman Wisdom on stage for over twenty years. He was, as Sir Norman remembered, "the ideal foil".
