Hello all
You were there at the beginning. You made the The Good Immigrant movement happen by supporting the original crowdfunder. And we've been hard at work since, using the book to make positive change in the publishng industry and in the world. This week sees the release of a BRAND NEW collection of essays: The Good Immigrant USA. It's had early buzz from NY Times, Buzzfeed, Time Magazine and Washington Post who said, 'its righteous rage is matched by its literary rewards'. It features amazing essays on the immigrant experience in America, from all your faves like Teju Cole, Alexander Chee, Porochista Khakpour, Jenny Zhang, Chigozie Obioma, Teja Rao, Maeve Higgins and more. It's co-edited by original contributor Chimene Suleyman. And it's out THIS WEEK in the UK. THIS WEEK!
In fact, gather round original family, can we have a quick quiet chat? We need to mobilise. I reckon, selling 1500 copies of this book, at least, would put it in the bestseller charts. Which means more reviews, more prominence in shops, more visibility on Amazon, more writers of colour getting to enjoy success. 1500 copies isn't a huge amount! That's like 10% of you who bought the original book, right? I reckon we can do this. I reckon we can push it into the bestseller charts. I couldn't tell you the last time a British writer of colour topped the Sunday Times bestseller charts. We can do this! You with me?
All we need to do is the following: 1) Buy the book 2) Tell five people in real life about it 3) Tell your social media fam about it. Steps 1 and 2 are the most important. That's what worked first time!
I promise you: however much you loved the first book, you will love this one just as much, if not more. That's the Shukla guarantee.
If you're into the whole online buying experience:
Waterstones and Foyles and Amazon and Hive (supporting indie bookshops) and Wordery and Book Depository
Let's take it to the top!! 1500 copies... let's gooooooo.
All best all love
Nikesh and Chimene x
