The Army Game

The Army Game

Although the book will concentrate on people rather than shows, 'The Army Game' is a classic forgotten situation comedy populated by many a forgotten comedy actor. In a recent interview at The Cinema Museum, original star Michael Medwin remembered the massive popularity of the series back in the 1950s. Personal appearances attracted mobs of thousands of adoring fans. "Now", he lamented, "no-one has heard of it!" Two of the pivotal stars of the series were Alfie Bass and Bill Fraser as Bootsie and Snudge. So popular were there, that when they left 'The Army Game' they went on to their own spin-off series for many years. As it's Christmas, here are Bill Fraser and Alfie Bass in 'The Army Game' pantomime 'Bootserella' as seen within 'Chelsea at 9' in January 1960.
