Six months

Hello!

Why Do Birds Suddenly Disappear? has been out in the wild for six months now, so I thought I'd email just to say another huge THANK YOU for your help in making it happen. Without wishing to get all over-excited about it, this book has been a bit of a life-changer, what with one thing and another, so you lot (yes, YOU) have, quite frankly, a lot to answer for.

The warm welcome the book's received with its readers has been one thing; the positive reviews in various publications – both birdy and non – is another. But even more excitingly, on the back of it I've been offered a contract by publishers Elliott & Thompson to write another nature-related book – something that would not have been possible if I'd wandered in off the street without any kind of track record. So your generous contribution to Why Do Birds Suddenly Disappear? has had far-reaching and overwhelmingly positive effects. Give yourselves a pat on the back.

Meanwhile, my second Unbound project, The Long and the Short of It, has hit 50% of its funding target, which feels like a significant milestone, even if there remains a fair way to go. I know a lot of you have already contributed to the campaign, for which I am of course enormously grateful (I'm all about the gratitude on this grey and Brexity Friday). But I'll be honest – this one is taking a bit longer than the first one, so if you felt like checking it out and offering it your support but haven't yet had the chance to do so, the gratitude would flow your way like ... oh I don't know ... The Legendary Flowing River of Zdangorb or something. I'm short of time, and haven't taken my Imaginative Simile pills yet.

And finally, if you happen to have read Why Do Birds...? and if you happen to have enjoyed it, even the shortest of reviews either on Amazon or Goodreads would be enormously appreciated thank you very kindly so much.

To send you on your way into the weekend, please accept this photo of the new Brexit Secretary.
