MONSIGNORS AND THE BOER WAR

I forgot to say, during the course of my last post, that 'Jude The Wizard', Gertie's nephew, is a part-time amateur surrealist painter, and that he once 'made some art' featuring Monsignor Tom Corby, a prominent religious figure in the townland of Currabawn, of the parish of Moondice, Currabawn and MInsha, but with instead of a head an enormous wheel of Dutch gouda cheese

There was a lot of trouble in the parish about it, including a substantial front-page article in The Currabawn Intelligencer & Trumpet, accompanied by a photograph of a very irate-seeming prelate indeed, holding up a blackthorn stick.

Did you know he fought in the Boer War?

Well, he did.

He had a late vocation.

P.S. More of Mr McCabe reading from his book for you to enjoy, too.
