Dear friends,
Yesterday, quite by accident, I came across a scrap of video I'd forgotten about, of a family walk in horrendous conditions on Dartmoor. It shows Felix, who was then 13, his younger brother Lucian who was 10, and my husband Alex, as blurred blobs, braving the rain and wind to walk up Butterdon Hill near Ivybridge. They look like people from a silent film, anonymous and indistinct, like ghosts almost. It struck me that this is what many of my memories are like; sketchy and distant. It is so frustrating. In writing The Green Hill I am trying to excavate these memories, which is challenging, but it is also helping me maintain a sense of Felix, of who he was, and what he is to me now. When someone is alive you never think about these things, or really ponder on what the person means to you, or what their essence is, but when they are gone, you do.
Today we've published another extract from the book, which is under the PROJECT SYNOPSIS tab. I hope you enjoy it.
The book is now 54% funded, which is wonderful, but there is still some way to go. I would be so grateful if you would share the link with anyone you think might be interested.
Thank you,
Sophie
