Hello!
Long time no etc. It's nearly a year since Why Do Birds Suddenly Disappear? hit the shelves, and there's nothing really to update you on. It remains a book.
HOWEVER, there are just 10 days left if you want to sign up for the Special Bumper Deluxe Flasherama Harder-than-Hardback Limited Edition of The Long and the Short of It. We are closing the campaign at the end of the month (although it is tempting, in keeping with prevailing fashion, to consider an extension).
There are various reasons for this decision, but mostly we want to get the book into the hands of pledgers as soon as we can (it's very nearly written). We do have enough to fund the slightly less glamorous digital/paperback edition of the book, so if we don't hit 100% by April 1st (it's at 77% at the moment), that's what we'll do. The book will exist, come what may. But I really really want to make it a hardback – not least because that's what we said we'd do – so if you want to get on board, do hop over to The Long and the Short of It's page and examine the options.
As before, you could sign up for a conducting lesson or a day's birdwatching; or you could give me a word to include in the book (the more obscure the better); or maybe you'd like a handwritten copy of one of the essays in the book so you can complain about the illegibility of my handwriting; or, even better, participate in the editorial process and give me feedback on one of the pieces (which I will get defensive about at first, and then acknowledge that you were right – this is the natural way of things). Or you could just pledge for the e- or physical book without any of the frilly extras. Whatever, it would be enormously appreciated. (I know a lot of you have already done this – my continued thanks gush in your direction.)
Have an excellent weekend.
Lev
