The race has begun, or at least the journey. The first supporters for The House of Fiction are crucial and make me feel like the book will actually happen. I've been thinking and researching the book for a few years now so I feel ready to get writing. It's great to see the book on the Unbound site and Harriet Winterburn's drawings are fantastic.
Right now I'm in the middle of reading a lot of Walter Scott, hard going at first but I think I'm actually starting to understand the heavy-accented dialogue: 'Gae hame, gudewife, it wad better set you to be nursing the gudeman's bairns than to be deaving us here.' Not very modern womanish but she gets her own back soon enough. Scott went in for the wild Scottish women.
