Dear #HowToBeACraftivist Supporters
Today is often called 'Blue Monday': the most depressing day of the year. So I wanted to share some good news with you about how the book that you helped to create is having a positive impact in our messy world. I hope this update brings a smile to your face, hope in your heart and a warm fuzzy feeling on these cold days and dark nights :)
Our book How To Be A Craftivist: the art of gentle protest has been named one of the 5 highest selling books of 2018 for Unbound!:) Over 6000 books have been sold so far. The book is selling steadily at around 200 copies a month without slowing down which is exciting. More university courses across the world are including it in their reading list for students. Word of mouth is meaning more campaigners, charity staff and community groups are using it to help their work. Feedback is coming in regularly. Here are just 3 examples of how the book is having positive impact for readers personally and politically in our fragile world:
“Excited to have read your new book Sarah and reread it too. I’ll be sharing the concept of craftivism along with a friend who runs our local Amnesty Int’l group, to a women’s group next week - sharing the idea of kind gentle activism. Thanks!!” - Melanie K
“I read the first chapter ofyour book aloud last week [to our community group] and we agreed to read the book and begin to think about what is most important to us and what we should do. Much discussion with homeless people, asylum seekers and those in the mental health and welfare systems....” - Annette J
“Loving your latest book #HowToBeACraftivist, the craftivist’s manifesto and great to feel part of a group.”- @annemurraymakes
A thank you to you from John Mitchinson Co-founder & Chief Publishing Officer Unbound:
“Every one who helped support Sarah make this book should be proud of themselves. Working with her to produce this exquisite, important book has been one of the highlights of my 30 year career in books. The UK edition looks beautiful, reads elegantly and fillseveryone who reads it with both the practical ideas and the emotional energy to make the world a better place. It is exactly the kind of book we founded Unbound to publish – by the people for the people - and to witness the care, dedication and sheer chutzpah Sarah has brought to every step of the book publishing process is humbling. But this book is just the beginning – foreign language versions are planned, and the US craftivist campaign starts in earnest next year. And all of this activity and international excitement is due to you – because you had the good taste and courage to put your faith and money behind Sarah and the ideas she so brilliantly embodies and lives. On behalf of the whole team at Unbound, thank you. Craftivism for ever!”
I've spoken at over 60 events since the book was released including 27 Book events and I will be speaking in Colombia, South America at Hay International 1st & 3rd February 2019, SXSW in Austin Texas in May as well as Imagine Belfast and Bollington festival amongst other places.
