I'm now at 90%, thank you all for your support.
When I was doing another draft of Belle Hotel a few years ago, a writer pal (thank you, Elizabeth Enfield) gave me the idea of starting the book at the point when Charlie is about to lose the two things he loves the most.... his hotel and girlfriend. After that I pitched Nick Sayers, publisher at Hodder and he has been brilliant. Nick said that moment is one of those great 'in the shit' moments and that what the book also needed was a 'deep shit' moment. Just when you think Charlie is getting out of the shit - boom - he's in deep shit. A big family secret pulls the rug out from under him. I guess you'll find out about the big Belle Hotel family secret when you get the book. I'll tell anybody what it is right now for another hundred quid pledge!
Nick Sayers has just very kindly offered himself as a pledge to help me nail that last 10%. Nick publishes Stephen King in the U.K. and is the editor of one of my fave writers, David Nicholls. He also edits crime (Tana French) and historical (Robyn Young).
