Cover story

We're on the final straight. I have made a start on researching ancient maps with the intention of using my version as one of the ink sketches twelve people have pledged for. Here's one, above, from the New York Library. I recommend a virtual (or actual) visit to this extensive and free resource. I'm not sure I can better this map so I'm going to invent a style specific to the book's locations. In mid-August Richard and I are sailing from Norway to Iceland and taking a sea plane over the Arctic Circle (Ice Rim) to visit a once-inhabited island. More of that once I've done it.

Meanwhile, Isobel and I have shared a board on Pinterest of arresting images and themes that give our chosen cover artist, Joe Wilson, a feel for the book's mood. He will have the task of designing something that can be a series cover as well as enticing first edition. Here's an example of one I selected, for content, darkness and shapes.

A past cover of Joe's that has aspects that may work for The Book of Bera can be seen at http://www.debutart.com/artist/joe-wilson/tess-of-the-d-urbervilles-cover
