My dear wild ones,
It has been a while since an update, do forgive my delay! Much has been afoot, especially on Rima's end, where, besides moving in to a fully fledged Hedgespoken truck, she has been painting the most glorious cover you've ever seen, hand-lettering each & every section-title through the book, concocting bewitching endpapers, and more... All of this we will reveal VERY soon, so do stay tuned. The next update will be written by Rima, and will reveal the full-blown cover & the story of its creation, painted by the green waysides. I promise you, it's going to be a treat.
Meanwhile, if you are itching to read a long excerpt from the book, the magnficient Earthlines magazine has published the chapter called "Rose" in their July issue, complete with two paintings.
It is always a joy to have work in Earthlines, a magnificent publication run by Sharon Blackie and David Knowles in Ireland which explores "the culture of nature," and is generally filled with deeply thoughtful and lyric writing about land, myth, and belonging. We are very pleased to share the first official print-excerpt of the book here. You can order yourself a copy & whet your appetites via this link.
I've had a few inquiries about when exactly such pledge levels as my Wild Story Workshop or the Hedgespoken Party will be held, and I wanted to just let any & all who are curious know that my Wild Story Workshop will be held on one of the last two weekends in January 2017; I will be in touch with those who've signed up about selecting a date that works for everyone in that range. January is a beautiful time for animal tracking in the Bay Area, as the earth is saturated and the creatures full of delight. Our other events will be held later in the spring. I know it's a long wait, and we are so grateful for your patience! It just makes sense to wait until you actually have the book in your hands this winter before holding any celebrations or classes.
In other news, I am very excited to say that I will be making an appearance at Base Camp, this year's Dark Mountain gathering in Devon, from September 2nd through 4th. Rima and I have been plotting out the shape and flavor of the event, and I can tell you it's going to be something magical indeed, rich with music & fire & tea. Alas, tickets are all sold out, but if you already happen to be going, you will be able to find me hanging about around the Hedgespoken truck throughout the weekend, with the Tatterdemalion event itself on the eve of the 2nd.
Well, that's all for now! Time is flying & before we all know it, Tatterdemalion will be on your doorsteps & ours! Until then, do stay tuned for Rima's upcoming Grand Cover Reveal, and don't hesitate to be in touch with any questions.
With love,
Sylvia
