I am an historian and printmaker, born in Warrington on the Lancashire/Cheshire border, in the north west of England.
My translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight draws on my intimate experience of the North West and my knowledge of mediaeval history, culture and architecture.
The approach I have taken explores and rejuvenates the poetic form of the original manuscript, bringing it alive for a modern audience, as well as revealing its historic and literary context.
The book also includes a selection of my own linocut prints, each meticulously researched to reflect the period in which the poem was written. It also includes linocut reproductions of the illuminated letters which appear in the original manuscript.
I like to call my edition a mediaeval illuminated manuscript for the modern age. I hope you enjoy it!
